Javier Milei's reaction to the approval of the pension increase: "Our commitment is to veto anything that undermines the zero deficit."

In line with the advance notice given this Wednesday morning by Chief of Staff Guillermo Francos, President Javier Milei confirmed that he will veto the 7.2% pension increase approved by the Chamber of Deputies, which must be ratified by the Senate.

Minutes after the voting results were announced, the president used his X account to also send a message to the upper house, chaired by Victoria Villarruel.

"Let's hope the senators don't support this populist demagoguery , but in any case, our commitment is to veto anything that threatens the zero deficit . The end," he wrote on the social network.

Presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni echoed his boss's message, stressing that "the President of the Nation will veto each and every bill that undermines the fiscal balance." " Populism is no longer the way forward. The end," he insisted.

The posts were in response to the opposition's support for the pension increase and an updated bonus, which would increase to $110,000. The proposal received 142 votes in favor, 67 against, and 19 abstentions.

Before the debate began in the chamber, when it was confirmed that the opposition blocs had achieved a quorum to move forward with the bill in question—as well as the request to declare a Disability Emergency —Francos had anticipated Milei's reaction.

End.

"These are two issues that raise public awareness, but they are two issues the State cannot afford to pay for , unless we go into debt again. That's not going to happen. If there are laws that have a fiscal impact, the Government will veto them," he said.

Despite the ruling party's efforts to derail the session, the opposition factions managed to muster the necessary support to advance the debate, which had already failed two weeks ago and which this time began with 131 deputies present, two more than the 129 required for a quorum.
